A liver abscess is a collection of pus in the liver, caused by bacteria or by amoebic infection. It presents with high fever, pain under the right ribs and a patient who is genuinely unwell, and untreated it can rupture or seed infection elsewhere.
At Lux Hospitals, liver abscess drainage costs between ₹2,00,000 and ₹2,50,000. Most of that figure is not the drainage itself but the days of intravenous antibiotics and monitoring that go with it.
One band, and it covers the whole admission rather than the procedure alone. Draining the collection takes under an hour; treating the infection that produced it takes days of intravenous antibiotics, repeat imaging and close observation.
₹2,00,000–₹2,50,000
estimated surgery cost
A single accessible collection is drained through a needle under ultrasound. Multiple abscesses, or one in an awkward segment, may need laparoscopic drainage instead.
A patient who is septic needs resuscitation, closer monitoring and sometimes an intensive care bed: the largest single variable in this estimate.
Several days of intravenous antibiotics, adjusted once cultures come back, with scans to confirm the cavity is collapsing. That course is most of what you are paying for.
A shared ward, a twin-sharing room or a private suite: the largest single swing in most estimates, and the one thing on this list you choose rather than are assigned.
A longer operation spends more theatre time and more of the anaesthetist’s, and a consultant with more years behind the procedure is charged at a higher rate.
Local, spinal or general. Which one your case needs is a clinical decision, not a preference, and it moves both the drug cost and how long you are monitored afterwards.
We are empanelled with most major insurers and file the pre-authorisation for you, so what is left to pay yourself is known before admission rather than at discharge.
Which of these apply to you is settled at the consultation. Until a surgeon has seen you and your reports, any figure (here or anywhere else) is a range rather than your bill.

| Liver Abscess Drainage | ₹2,00,000 – ₹2,50,000 |
Every figure above is an indicative range, not a quote. After your consultation you are given a written, fixed-cost estimate, and that is the number you pay, with no additions once treatment begins.
The figure quoted to you is what leaving the hospital costs, not what entering it does. Everything below is inside it.
Important: Anything outside this list is told to you before it is done, not billed afterwards. If your case needs something the estimate did not allow for, you are asked first.
Your final bill may change if you need additional tests, a procedure for another condition, a longer hospital stay, extra medicines or follow-up care beyond what your estimate includes.
Ask the billing team which charges are included and which may be added based on your treatment needs.
Yes, most health insurance plans cover it. Our team handles verification and cashless claim support, emergency admissions included.
Coverage depends on your policy, the treatment approved and the insurer or TPA. Contact the Lux Hospitals insurance desk to check eligibility and understand any expected out-of-pocket cost.
This is an infection first and a procedure second, and it is managed accordingly.
Several days, depending on how severe the infection is and how quickly the fever settles. Discharge is on oral antibiotics once the cavity is collapsing and you are afebrile.
