Sebaceous cysts are slow-growing, non-cancerous lumps that form under the skin: most often on the scalp, neck, back or face. They are usually harmless, and they are usually removed for one of two reasons: they have become painful and infected, or they are somewhere you would rather they were not.
At Lux Hospitals, sebaceous cyst removal starts at ₹8,000 and runs to about ₹15,000, depending on the cyst’s size, where it sits, and whether local or general anaesthesia is needed.
This is the least expensive procedure on the estimator, and the figure is mostly a function of anaesthesia. A small cyst excised under local anaesthetic is a short day-care visit; one that is large, deep, or in an awkward site takes theatre time and sedation.
₹8,000–₹15,000
estimated surgery cost
A small superficial cyst is excised in minutes. A large or deep-seated one takes longer, needs more careful closure, and sometimes a drain.
A cyst on the face or neck is removed with the scar in mind, and a site that is hard to reach or close to something delicate takes more time in theatre.
An actively infected cyst may need draining first and excising later. Anything with a suspicious feel to it is sent for histopathology, which is an added charge and a worthwhile one.
A shared ward, a twin-sharing room or a private suite: the largest single swing in most estimates, and the one thing on this list you choose rather than are assigned.
A longer operation spends more theatre time and more of the anaesthetist’s, and a consultant with more years behind the procedure is charged at a higher rate.
Local, spinal or general. Which one your case needs is a clinical decision, not a preference, and it moves both the drug cost and how long you are monitored afterwards.
We are empanelled with most major insurers and file the pre-authorisation for you, so what is left to pay yourself is known before admission rather than at discharge.
Which of these apply to you is settled at the consultation. Until a surgeon has seen you and your reports, any figure (here or anywhere else) is a range rather than your bill.
Get Cost Estimate| Treatment option | Estimated cost at Lux |
|---|---|
| Minimally Invasive Cyst Removal | ₹8,000 – ₹10,000 |
| Open Cyst Excision | ₹8,000 – ₹15,000 |
Every figure above is an indicative range, not a quote. After your consultation you are given a written, fixed-cost estimate, and that is the number you pay, with no additions once treatment begins.
The figure quoted to you is what leaving the hospital costs, not what entering it does. Everything below is inside it.
Important: Anything outside this list is told to you before it is done, not billed afterwards. If your case needs something the estimate did not allow for, you are asked first.
Your final bill may change if you need additional tests, a procedure for another condition, a longer hospital stay, extra medicines or follow-up care beyond what your estimate includes.
Ask the billing team which charges are included and which may be added based on your treatment needs.
Most policies cover it where the cyst is symptomatic or infected. Purely cosmetic removals are often excluded: our desk checks your policy and tells you which category yours falls into before you commit.
Coverage depends on your policy, the treatment approved and the insurer or TPA. Contact the Lux Hospitals insurance desk to check eligibility and understand any expected out-of-pocket cost.
A small operation is still an operation, and on a face or a neck the result is looked at every day for the rest of a person’s life.
There generally is not one. Most cases are day-care procedures and patients go home the same day.
