Stone size, number and position
A 2cm stone in the renal pelvis is straightforward. A staghorn stone branching through the calyces may need multiple tracks, or a second session, to clear completely.

How many tracks, and stents
Each additional access track adds theatre time and consumables, and most patients leave with a ureteric stent that is removed a few weeks later.

Imaging and stone analysis
A CT to plan the access, and analysis of the stone afterwards so the metabolic advice that prevents the next one is based on what yours was actually made of.

Room category
A shared ward, a twin-sharing room or a private suite: the largest single swing in most estimates, and the one thing on this list you choose rather than are assigned.
